The Right Tool

Over the years I have tried and completed many @home fitness programs. Some I loved a lot, others I liked enough. Either way, I received or maintained great results with all of them. Below are the ones I have completed thus far.

The Masters Hammer & Chisel
Building a strong, sculpted body doesn't require hours spent working out—just an expert approach. And with The Master's Hammer and Chisel, seasoned trainers Sagi Kalev and Autumn Calabrese have compiled their best, most efficient techniques into 30- to 40-minute resistance-training workouts to help you craft a powerful, perfectly defined physique in just 60 days.

This is probably one of the most fun programs I have done to date. I was a little skeptical after the first week. I realized quickly that each routine was a total body workout, and after doing programs where you switched up the muscle groups everyday, doing them all in the same day back to back had me nervous. Surprisingly, they way they break it up, you are working the muscles differently, even though they are in the same area.

The switching back and forth between the two trainers Sagi Kalev and Autumn Calabrese kept the program fresh and not monotonous. In fact, you could easily go 2 weeks without duplicating a workout, which was really nice. The intensity level is just right for an intermediate to advanced fitness enthusiast. You can easily lighten up the weights, or increase them to fit your needs.

The bonus is the revolutionized portion control system that was introduced initially with Autumn's 21 Day fix program. This really helps keep your nutrition in line to help you receive the best results possible and teach you that you don't have to eat everything under the sun.

P90X3

Shortly after T25, good ole Tony Horton released his 3rd P90X program, P90X3. I had like the strength results I had received from the original P90X, so I thought I would give it a try. What really enticed me with this one was the shorter routines. Tony is a great guy, but his constant dialogue from the original P90X drove me nuts after a while and actually found myself either playing music or skipping his chats top the next exercise.

But with this one, none of that. Well, a little bit. But the workouts are so fast and moving, he doesn't really have enough time for chit chat. Just instruction on how to do the workouts and GO!

I really liked the shorten workouts, but you still got ina great set and a lot of it was functional exercising, which can be applied to so much more in the real world. I liked this one so much in fact, I did 2 rounds of it.

Focus T25

Because I had loved Insanity so much, I decided to stick with this Kick butt trainer and test out his latest release at that time, which boasted that you could receive the same results in half the time as long as you weren't focused.

I was already content with my weight loss and what I had achieved, so I was more curious to see if I could maintain what I had gained. I was not disappointed. These workouts, only being 25 minutes a piece for 5 days a week, were no joke. They start off easy, so not nearly as insane as Insanity, but you still get a good workout in. By the second phase, you are kicking it up a notch, and by the third, which is an add on and not part of the original package, it is like Insanity light.

Insanity

Your personal trainer Shaun T will push you past your limits with 10 discs packed with cardio and plyometric drills with intervals of strength, power, resistance, and core training. No equipment or weights are needed, and you don’t have to be in extreme shape to do it. As long as you’re ready to dig deep, Shaun will help you get insane results in just 60 days.

This is the second program I ever tried, but the first one I ever completed. That's right. After not completing P90X, I went back to just running and still piss poor eating habits. Needless to say, I gained another 10+ lbs duirng that time frame. When the scale was close to 200 lbs, I knew I needed a change. Enter Insanity!
I borrowed it from a friend and was determined to finish no matter what. This is not a program you should start off with if youhave not worked out for a while. Sure you can try and slow it down and modify, but if I knew then what I know now, I definitely would have taken a different approach.

This program is great though. I never felt more in shape than I did after completing this. Yeah it was tough, and I would be dripping with sweat afterwards and feeling like I was going to pass out sometimes, but it was worth it. I lost 25 lbs and returned back to my healthy weight, with more energy and jazz than I knew what to do with!

P90X

P90X includes 12 sweat-inducing, muscle-pumping workouts, designed to transform your body from regular to ripped in just 90 days. The secret is an advanced training technique called Muscle Confusion, which accelerates your results by constantly introducing new moves and routines so your body never plateaus.

This was the first program I ever did, and boy was I in for a surprise. The first time I attempted this program, I think I made it to week 9 or 10 before I just couldn't handle it anymore. Tony is a little cheesy with his commentary, and the workouts were long. 45-60 minutes. It was not until many months later and another program attempted before I ever finished this one.

don't get me wrong, it is still a great program, I was just not in the right time of my life to complete this one!
