Insanity Max:30 ~ My last 30 days: Review

Holy Smokes! Just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any tougher, SURPRISE! These last 30 days really packed in a punch I wasn't expecting. Here I am thinking, wow, I survived month 1. I should be able to last a little longer starting out in month 2. Yeah right!!!

My week started out with Max Out cardio. At 5 minutes and 55 seconds, I was ready for my first break. I hadn't even come close to the scheduled break. I was like, you have got to be kidding me. I got my water, took a deep breath, and jumped back in. I always finished the workout of the day (WOD), but was always striving to make it just a little bit longer. Max out cardio, Max Out strength, and Friday fight Round 2 really took the cardio to another level. Staggered so that you would hit those Monday, Wednesday and Friday, it really got the blood flowing for the next day. Tuesdays and Thursdays were reserved for the strength days. With Max Out Power and Max Out strength, you still had that Tabata style workout, with scheduled breaks about every 10 minutes or so, but you were still pushing the envelope and really making those muscles work. I will not lie to you, I had to modify some of the exercises. some because I refused to give up and wanted to keep going, others because parts of my body just can't handle it anymore. For example, the power jumps. Even from my regular Insanity days I couldn't do those, for it hurt my knees and back to much. No difference here. But I refuse to do nothing, so I am glad the modified moves were there and shown.

Where I notice the biggest change was not in the pounds gained or lost, but in my endurance. I am also a pretty avid runner with our local running group, so I am constantly trying t go just a little bit faster or a little bit harder than the last time. It is hard because I am usually with my son (6) and he is not the fastest yet. don't get me wrong, for only being 6 and still averaging a 9:30-10: min mile when he applies himself , it is still not as fast as I would like. When we do our sprint intervals, I would be able to keep up with the faster group for the first few rounds, then would hit that wall. Lately, I have been able to stick with them to the end before I start feeling it. So definite improvement there.

My weight stayed about the same. Not really up or down, but I am in the stage of my life where I am fairly content with where I am at and just trying to maintain my current level. Plus, dialing in my nutrition is still a challenge for me. Not nearly as complicated 2 years ago, but still a  challenge.

Anyway, as far as Max 30, I think it is an excellent cardio program with just enough strength training to really give you an all around workout. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. Although there are modified moves and they are demonstrated, you want to have a pretty solid foundation on how to do the exercises before you start, so you are less likely to hurt yourself. While many of the combinations are new, they are still rooted from Shaun T's past programs he has created. So if you have done any of those or would like to, I would start there before jumping into Insanity Max 30.  I hope my review has helped you.
